AFA Fostering are on the look out for new and experienced foster carers in Norfolk. Could you provide a nurturing, loving and caring home for local children?

We are looking for carers who live all over Norfolk. From the key areas like Norwich, Great Yarmouth and King’s Lynn, to the surrounding towns and villages. What’s important to us is finding local people with space in their lives and their home to welcome and care for vulnerable children.

Could you be a foster carer in Norfolk?

Fostering can be very challenging. Children in need of foster care come from many different backgrounds, from babies through to older teenagers. However, the reward you get from seeing children placed in your care achieve, improve and grow through being nurtured far outweighs the challenges.

Children who come to live with our foster carers may have suffered trauma and abuse. As a consequence, they can no longer live with their families. Wherever they are in Norfolk, we think it is very important that these children are able to stay in their current schools and maintain contact with their friends and families.

So, whether you live in Attleborough, Stalham, Thetford, Swaffham or Wymondham, there will be a child who needs a stable and supportive home near you.

“It is an amazing feeling when children begin to trust us, make progress, and realise we will do our best not to let them down. We don’t promise that we won’t (we explain we’re only human) but it’s certainly not our intention. When they accept your help and feel safe enough to share there worries, sleep though the night without waking having a night terror, when they finally begin to feel part of your family; that is what we really want for them.”

How do we support our foster carers in Norfolk?

If you choose to become a foster carer, you can rest assured that you won’t be alone. We know that caring for children isn’t a 9-5 job, so neither are we. We are on hand 24/7 from our Norwich office to provide support for our carers.

AFA foster carers are allocated a dedicated Placement Manager. Our placement Managers are qualified social workers based in your local area. Our foster carers find it comforting to know that they have dedicated support close by.

Alongside the dedicated support you receive from your Placement Manager, we offer comprehensive fostering training before and after approval. Training takes place at venues across Norfolk within reasonable travelling distance. We work hard alongside our carers to provide a range of learning opportunities, suited to people’s individual learning needs.

In addition, we also provide regular coffee mornings and support groups for carers across Norfolk. This ensures we deliver the direct support and service that enables AFA foster carers to support and learn from one another.

Our head office base is in Norwich, just off the A47 near Thorpe. That makes it the ideal location for carers to be able to attend training whether travelling from the Norfolk Broads or coastal locations such as Hemsby and Caister. With the new Northern Distributor Road (NDR) on our office doorstep, we are now also less than an hour from Fakenham, Dereham, Holt and Sheringham.
